United States considers intensified economic pressure on Iran
Washington is preparing new measures to intensify economic pressure on Iran, with the Trump administration considering sanctions on Chinese oil refiners and banks accused of facilitating Iranian trade. Other options include stricter enforcement against oil shipping networks and currency exchange channels, as well as potential secondary tariffs on countries trading with Iran.
These measures would expand the economic dimension of the confrontation as Washington seeks to restrict revenue streams that support Tehran’s war financing.
Iran–Qatar dispute over missing pilots deepens
Iran has requested that Qatar permit an Iranian delegation to enter the country to investigate the fate of pilots Tehran claims were captured by Qatari forces. Qatar denies holding any Iranian pilots and states that its search-and-rescue teams recovered the remains of one pilot after Iranian aircraft violated Qatari airspace.
Tehran has also accused Kuwait of withholding information regarding four Iranians detained there, further heightening tensions with its Gulf neighbours.
Israel–Lebanon front remains volatile
Israel says it struck two Hezbollah commanders in southern Lebanon in operations that resulted in at least 11 fatalities. The strikes are among the deadliest incidents since the Israel–Hezbollah truce began in June.

India moves to strengthen LPG supplies amid Middle East disruption
India has set a maximum daily cooking-gas production target of 63,810 tonnes across state-run and private refineries in response to supply disruptions stemming from the Iran conflict and the ongoing Strait of Hormuz blockade.
Prior to the disruption, India sourced approximately 90% of its LPG imports from the Middle East. The government has also instructed companies to maintain adequate storage and logistics capacity to strengthen domestic supply buffers.
India faces heavy-rain spell across several regions
The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of the country on Monday, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall expected over Gangetic West Bengal and northern Odisha.
Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, the Northeast, and parts of central and western India are also under a heavy-rain watch.

Germany’s investment in the US falls to a three-year low
German firms significantly reduced direct investment in the United States in the first half of 2026. Investment declined by nearly two-thirds year-on-year to €4.3 billion, the lowest first-half level since 2023.
The data indicate growing uncertainty among German businesses over the Trump administration’s tariff policies and broader US trade stance. Investment was nearly 80% below levels recorded in the first half of 2024.

Indonesia earthquake death toll reaches 51
At least 51 people have been killed and approximately 5,000 evacuated after a magnitude-7.7 earthquake struck eastern Indonesia. Landslides have blocked roads, and more than 1,300 homes have been damaged.
More than 3,500 military and police personnel have been deployed as rescuers reach areas previously cut off by landslides. Hundreds of aftershocks have been recorded following the earthquake.
Bangladesh records historic Test victory in Australia
Bangladesh have defeated Australia by nine wickets in Darwin to secure their first-ever Test victory on Australian soil. Australia were bowled out for 284 in their second innings before Bangladesh comfortably chased the 57-run target.
