In a significant development ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, the Janhit Dal, veterans of the JP Movement, and the Janata Party have come together to form the Bihar Development Alliance (BDA).
At a joint press conference held at the Constitution Club of India in New Delhi, these senior leaders announced plans to contest 55 seats as a new third front offering a politics of transparency and progress focused on people’s welfare.
Anshumman Joshi, National President of Janhit Dal, highlighted the alliance’s commitment to minority representation, stating,
“In today’s political landscape, the voices of common citizens and minorities often go unheard. To address this, the alliance has formed a National Minority Committee to ensure political representation for Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, and other communities.”
Navneet Chaturvedi, President of the Janata Party, criticised established secular parties, saying,
“They have only sought minority votes without providing them with adequate leadership opportunities. The Bihar Development Alliance will empower minority youth, including Muslims, to actively participate in politics and lead their communities.”
Veteran leader Dr Suraj Mandal, a former MP and JP Movement stalwart, expressed confidence in the alliance’s rise, remarking,
“The people of Bihar now want change. Those underestimating this alliance will soon witness its impact. Veterans with experience in leading major movements, such as Jharkhand Statehood, are now ready to bring revolutionary change to Bihar as well.”
Asgar Khan, another prominent figure in the alliance, emphasised,
“Our fight is not of stubbornness, but of principles. When it comes to principles, confrontation is necessary – and that is the true test of patriotism.”
Symbolising their vision for Bihar’s future, the leaders presented a “Potli of Change” – a symbolic bundle representing their promises of genuine minority representation, corruption-free governance, and development-focused politics. This potli will be carried from house to house, forming the cornerstone of their election campaign.
The Bihar Development Alliance promises to uphold the dreams of Loknayak Jai Prakash Narayan by delivering transparent governance and inclusive development to the people of Bihar.
